MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company has announced its agreement to acquire the 81-megawatt Bishop Hill II wind project from Invenergy Wind LLC. The project, which currently is under construction north of Bishop Hill, will feature 50 General Electric 1.62-megawatt wind turbines. Construction began in the fourth quarter of 2011. Bishop Hill II is expected to be in commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2012. Ameren Illinois will purchase the electricity from the project pursuant to the terms of a 20-year power purchase agreement, according to a statement released Friday by MidAmerican. Bishop Hill II is the second phase of Invenergy’s Bishop Hill Wind Energy Center. Invenergy retains ownership of the 133-turbine Bishop Hill Phase I, also under construction and due to commence commercial operations in 2012.Website
