The Los Medanos Energy Center, a natural gas-fired combined-cycle cogeneration facility, is located in Pittsburg, California, on a 12-acre site. Two combustion turbines are routed to two heat recovery steam generators, which provide steam to one steam turbine. Calpine utilized a contractor to provide turnkey services for engineering and construction.
The Los Medanos Energy Center sells electricity and steam to industrial customers and additional power into the California power market. To provide mutual benefits to the Delta and Los Medanos Energy Centers and to the local sanitation district, Calpine built a state-of-the-art recycled water facility. The recycled water is piped to the energy centers and used as the makeup water source for the cooling towers.
