ATLANTA, Jan. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Landis+Gyr, a global leader in transforming the way energy is delivered and managed, will introduce its Engage solution suite at DistribuTech 2017. Engage brings together a wide-range of applications to support consumer involvement in making load management and distributed energy resource decisions.
"Consumers are responding to new and expanded energy choices, and as a result we see an opportunity for utilities to enhance their customer relationships. The Engage platform delivers a complete package for utilities seeking to involve consumers in energy and capacity optimization choices," said John Radgowski, Vice President of Solutions Product Management at Landis+Gyr. "It supports both utility-directed and consumer-driven options for demand response and targeted load management."
A centerpiece of this solution is the online Marketplace which provides a turnkey storefront for utilities to offer energy management devices directly to consumers – from thermostats and lightbulbs to water heaters and power strips. Marketplace also recommends and offers other energy saving product options to consumers, and helps streamline program participation to make it more convenient and accessible. A soon-to-be-released function of this portal will expand load management capabilities by offering rewards programs to consumers based on incentives for voluntary load reduction during peak periods.
These new functions complement Landis+Gyr's existing load management applications, including Power Center head-end software and Home Energy Manager, a consumer interface for controlling load management schedules and settings. In addition to Landis+Gyr thermostats and switches, support for customer-purchased Wi-Fi thermostats within Power Center will be released later this year, allowing utilities to offer expanded participation in their demand response programs.
"The challenge of managing load profile on the distribution grid has never been greater, and the Engage platform is one more way Landis+Gyr is assisting our utility customers to balance loads, maintain power quality and protect infrastructure," Radgowski said. "As part of our consumer intelligence portfolio, Engage automates consumer recruitment and engagement, while ensuring effective demand response programs."

ATLANTA, July 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Landis+Gyr, a global leader in shaping how energy is delivered and consumed, announced it is participating in a ground-breaking energy storage project in partnership with E.ON Climate and Renewables and Tucson Electric Power (TEP).
E.ON was one of two companies selected by TEP to provide capacity and availability from a 10 megawatt (MW) energy storage system. Working with E. ON, the prime developer for the project, Landis+Gyr will supply a containerized Li ion energy storage system that integrates Toshiba's SCiB™ lithium titanate oxide batteries. The technology was chosen by Landis+Gyr because of its superior cycle life, high power density and rapid charge capabilities. In total, TEP is adding 20 MW of energy storage capacity through two projects that will help balance load and regulate frequency on its distribution system, while also deferring capital investments in spinning reserves.
"The TEP storage project is driven by the growing need for rapid response to changes in energy supply and demand," said Mike Cooper, General Manager of Distributed Generation and Energy Storage solutions at Landis+Gyr. "This battery solution will allow E.ON to provide a flexible, high availability service to TEP for maintaining high quality and reliable power delivery in its territory."
The storage facility and accompanying 2 MW solar array, located at the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park southeast of Tucson, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017
The storage system will also help TEP study how to integrate a growing portfolio of renewable generating resources. The utility has a goal of generating 30 percent of its power from renewable resources by 2030, which amounts to about 1,200 MW. In the case of solar generation, storage systems can rapidly replace sudden losses of generation that occur throughout the day without overstressing slower ramping conventional generation.
Landis+Gyr's energy storage offering supports its broader Energy and Capacity Optimization System (ECOS), which combines communication, control and data management technologies into a flexible solution to monitor and manage the distribution network and enable optimal utilization of existing and new distributed energy resources. Capabilities include DC and AC storage solutions, distributed generation management software, solution design and application analysis along with 24/7 monitoring and maintenance services managed from its remote operating centers worldwide.
About E.ON
E.ON is an international privately-owned energy supplier and will in future be focusing entirely on energy networks, customer solutions and renewables. In the 2015 financial year, more than 56,000 employees based in many countries in Europe as well as in North America generated sales of around EUR 116 billion. Around 33 million customers purchase gas and electricity from E.ON. Within the global renewables segment E.ON is a leading company and will continue to expand the share of renewable energy in E.ON's power generation portfolio. The company has already invested more than € 10 bn and operates nearly 5.2 gigawatts of renewable capacity. E.ON is headquartered in Essen, Germany.

ATLANTA, May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Landis+Gyr revealed an Energy and Capacity Optimization System (ECOS) as part of a long-term strategy to address energy distribution challenges in a rapidly changing environment for North American utilities.
The company made the announcement at its annual customer conference, Exchange, held in Phoenix, AZ. Addressing the more than 600 utility professionals in attendance, John Radgowski, Vice President of Solutions Product Management at Landis+Gyr, described ECOS as a platform that brings together demand response, distributed energy resource and voltage management technologies in a coordinated approach for balancing load and bringing new distributed resources online in the future.
"Utilities are facing flat demand growth, increasing competitive pressures and grid management issues with the rise in distributed resources. Meeting these challenges requires the ability to apply the most effective approach to each problem," Radgowski said. "In many cases, the technology is already available or deployed and what's needed is a way to plan, integrate and leverage those assets to maintain reliable and efficient service.
"Building on the core capability of aggregating dispatchable load management, distributed generation management and voltage management for energy and capacity optimization, ECOS also recognizes the untapped potential of consumer-side load and distributed generation. Stronger customer partnerships will be a key factor for both grid management and customer retention in the future," he said.
Landis+Gyr's history of delivering high-performance networks and grid sensing technologies has been complemented by the integration of advanced load management, battery energy storage and grid analytics tools. The company's ECOS strategy extends this platform for utilities by combining communication, control and data management technologies into a flexible solution to monitor and manage the distribution network down to the circuit level.
ECOS starts with planning tools to help utilities identify and prioritize problem areas and determine the best solution. It then leverages data from sensors, and control of distribution equipment to perform operations such as voltage optimization, consumer load management and solar inverter control. ECOS's modular design allows tailored applications for each utility customer with the ability to expand future functionality as needs evolve.
Landis+Gyr's Gridstream® AMI, Distribution Intelligence and Customer Intelligence solutions are successfully deployed at hundreds of utilities worldwide and provide the foundation for energy and capacity optimization. The company's annual Exchange conference brings together utility customers and partners for three days of educational sessions and training provided by industry and technology experts. The primary focus of the event is exploring the benefits of grid modernization technology and planning for a new energy future.
