The RockGen Energy Center is located in the town of Christiana in Dane County, Wisconsin. Three combustion turbines produce electricity during times of peak demand. Calpine utilized a contractor to provide turn-key services for engineering and construction. The Rockgen Energy Center is the largest peaking plant in the state of Wisconsin. At the time it was constructed, it was the largest plant in Wisconsin using clean-burning natural gas. The RockGen Energy Center provides electricity to the Wisconsin wholesale power market. The Wisconsin power market is primarily comprised of old, coal-fired power plants. The demands of the Clean Air Act and other environmental issues related to coal-fired generation are forcing suppliers to shift to cleaner energy resources. Calpine's RockGen facility provides Wisconsin with environmentally responsible energy to help meet their growing demand for electricity, while also providing needed diversification for the state's fuel mix.
