Massachusetts Considering Allowing Utilities to Purchase Geothermal Energy on Micro Scale

Massachusetts has introduced a new legislative bill which would permit utilities to purchase geothermal energy for use in home heating as an alternative to natural gas.  The energy would be built out on a neighborhood scale under what they refer to as the "GeoMicroDistrict system."

The energy would require vertical wellbores with a heat pump and an ambient water loop to heat buildings.
